I have often wondered if my voice is unique enough to be a successful voice over talent. Do I have a voice that is different from the millions of other middle-aged males in America? Can I distinguish myself as a voice over artist? When I posed that question to my voice coach, Nick Kaiser, he immediately said “YES!” and then gave me three or four quick descriptions (warm, clear diction, intelligent, rich baritone) that made me feel a little better about myself. But that nagging feeling remains to this day.
Do I have a unique voice?
Well, today, I discovered someone who definitely has a unique voice, and has made that work for her as a successful voice over talent with, you guessed it… Children’s toys!
Her name is Lisa Biggs and she was recently featured on Carolina Now with her friend Diane Merritt as they talked about their business, Voxy Ladies. Her voice reminds me of a friend of my daughter who has a voice very similar to Lisa’s.
Needless to say, I was inspired by their story, so I felt compelled to share it here. Check out their website above and feel free to leave any comments about what you think below!
