Every now and then, as I research the voice over business, I come across a true gem of knowledge. The gem I found today was “The Voice Over Entrance Exam” by Peter K. O’Connell, which is a frank, yet honest discussion about whether or not people who enter this field have what it takes to be successful. Peter doesn’t pull any punches as he describes the wanna-be’s and the uncommitted who think that they are a professional voice over artist if they have a microphone plugged into a USB port and free audio software.
Peter lists three goals that every aspiring voice talent should do every day:
1. Read out loud in full voice for at least 15 minutes per day.
2. Study your copy, which is more than just reading the script over and over again.
3. Record your practice sessions so that you can go back and listen to the before and after.
I invite you to check out this free e-book. It will open your eyes and change your life. It certainly did that for me!
